| A Note on Safety |
| |
The Organizers strongly believe that skating safe means skating for life. All skaters, whether spectator or competitor, will be required to wear helmets when skating within the "free-ride" areas. We are also limiting access to Electricity Hill to just those competitors who we've deemed fit to negotiate this course. This is both due to our conditions of lease and because it makes good sense. Helmets should fit well and be appropriate for skateboarding. We will try to have loaners available at the event itself, and we will keep everyone updated on that, but do bring your own to be sure. The one single investment you absolutely should make is in a good helmet. While slide gloves, knee and elbow pads are optional, we strongly recommend them. Additional requirements for competitors in the DH race can be found here.
As organizers it is our responsibility to all of the participants in the event that we keep the event as safe as possible for everyone, and that everyone goes home with a smile on their face (even the losers). As such, we will be strictly enforcing this rule and we reserve the right to refuse access to participants who do not abide by it, or otherwise skate in a manner that endangers other skaters or spectators. Remember, it is your responsibility as a longboarder to skate responsibly.
